As hard as it is to find a good horror movie, it may be even more difficult to find a comedy that's actually funny and not incredibly overhyped. After sitting through countless terrible movies and more horrible fart jokes than one should ever have to experience, here are the exceptions. Here are eleven of the funniest movies you've never seen.
Hot Rod
The Lonely Island guys are obviously best known for their "Saturday Night Live" Digital Shorts, but in 2007, before their popularity really spiked, they made "Hot Rod." Written by Pam Brady and directed by Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer, Hot Rod follows the life of a self proclaimed stuntman, played by Andy Samberg, as he tries to pull off an insane stunt in order to pay for his stepdad's heart operation. Why? So he can get him well enough to defeat him in a fight. Bill Hader and Will Arnett also make appearances in case you needed any more convincing.

Eagle vs Shark
"Eagle vs Shark" is one of two movies on the list starring Jemaine Clement, who is charming in a way that should not be charming in the least. In this he joins Loren Horsley, who also wrote the film, as two social outcasts who attempt a relationship in the most unusual of circumstances; getting revenge on high-school bullies.

The Foot Fist Way
Before Danny McBride became a superstar as Kenny Powers in "Eastbound & Down," he was an insane karate instructor named Fred Simmons in "The Foot Fist Way." It's insanely dark, including one scene where an elderly woman spars against a mammoth black belt. Not to spoil anything for you, but it's completely insane in the best way possible.

Dirty Work
There is no one funnier than Norm Macdonald. His roast of Bob Saget is one of the best moments I've ever witnessed in comedy. His standup is always brilliant and even his brief sports show was fantastic. "Dirty Work" is no exception. It doesn't feel like Norm Macdonald reading someone else's jokes, it feels like 82 minutes of his life. There's a fantastic supporting cast including Don Rickles, Artie Lange, Chris Farley, and pre-"Community" Chevy Chase!

National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1
In a time period when spoofs were abundant (and actually funny) and National Lampoon was making something other than Van Wilder sequels, "Loaded Weapon 1" went completely under the radar. Emilio Estevez and Samuel L. Jackson are hilarious in their portrayal of the Lethal Weapon-style detectives and there's so many amazing cameos even if now they're a little dated. Did I mention William Shatner plays a villain named General Mortars?

Rushmore
Wes Anderson's movies aren't for everyone and I get that. As much as I love them I can also see why a mainstream audience wouldn't always embrace them. However if there's one exception, it's "Rushmore." Bill Murray is beyond fantastic as he battles teen Jason Schwartzman for the love of Olivia Williams. If you get the DVD be sure to check out the Criterion version full of special features.

In Bruges
In Martin McDonagh's full length directorial debut he created one of the most fantastically dark comedies you'll ever see. Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson are assassins who are forced to hide out in Bruges after a job gone wrong. There's also a drug-using, prostitute-hiring, openly-racist little person that you really owe it to yourself to see.

Evolution
"Evolution" was originally written as a serious sci-fi thriller but then rewritten into a comedy, lucky for us. Although tanking at the box office and a huge $80 million budget it's an underrated gem that features a slew of stars including David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Ty Burrell, Dan Aykroyd, Seann William Scott, Orlando Jones, and many more. It's definitely worth checking out.

Election
You probably wouldn't expect a movie like this from sweethearts like Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick, but "Election" is far from a romantic comedy. Witherspoon plays a high school student named Tracy Flick who becomes engulfed in a student election war with her teacher Jim McAllister, played by Broderick. If people are expecting "Legally Blonde 2" when they check this one out, they will definitely be caught off guard.

Observe and Report
In between doing "Superbad" and "Funny People," Seth Rogen starred in his darkest movie to date along with director Jody Hill. Unfortunately no one saw it. Rogan portrays a mall security guard but it's far from "Paul Blart: Mall Cop." Instead of the silly Kevin James hijinks, Rogan beats skateboarders, tries to seduce Anna Faris, and searches for a mall parking lot flasher. Ray Liotta also goes completely bonkers in his role as Detective Harrison.

Gentlemen Broncos
"Napoleon Dynamite" writer and director Jared Hess may not have gotten the same amount of attention with his 2009 film "Gentlemen Broncos," but that doesn't make it any less fantastic. Michael Angarano stars as a teen fantasy writer whose idea gets stolen from famed writer Chevalier, played by Jemaine Clement who you probably know from "Flight of the Conchords." Toss in Sam Rockwell as the hero from each of their novels and you've got another bizarre classic from Hess.
