When the weather gets nice, inhibitions go out the window and we start thinking of reckless things to do with our time. A popular distraction around these parts is to break out the video camera and film some summer stunts, usually involving bodies of water, rapid rates of speed and potential bodily harm. In this feature, we'll share ten of the most inspirational - and insane - summer stunts ever filmed.
Waterslide Front Flip
Water park employees don't look kindly on people using the equipment in unorthodox ways, but I think this guy got special permission. He first takes the waterslide in the normal, boring way and then, on his next run down, stands up midway through and does a perfect front flip while maintaining his momentum, landing solidly in the middle of the track and continuing his run down like a boss. His fancy neon '90s waterproof jumpsuit is just the icing on the cake.

10 Man Pool Basketball Alley-Oop
Putting a basketball hoop in your pool is like sending an autographed invitation for craziness to happen. In the case of these enterprising souls, it's setting up a Rube Goldberg device of waterslides and other gadgetry to make a ten-man alley-oop shot that amazingly still hits with nothing but net. Can you imagine the planning sessions that went into making this thing, especially since the pool they're doing it in isn't much bigger than a really nice bathtub? The only think that would make it better is if they got Shaq to come over for the final dunk.

Sandboarding Flips
Miss snowboarding? There's hope. The extreme sport of sandboarding uses ordinary snowboards waxed to an impossible shine and takes them out to the sand dunes, where they fly down slopes at breakneck speeds. The only downside is that they're virtually impossible to steer, which makes these unreal stunts even more impressive. If you bail trying to stick the landing, you're bound to end up with a mouthful of hot desert sand.

Wakeboard Boat Jump
Wakeboarding is one of the most basic and primal ways of indulging your need for summer speed. It's just you, a little piece of fiberglass and a tow rope against the world. Wakeboarding stunts can get pretty epic, but for our money there's nothing more insane than this clip, in which a rider gets towed into the right side of a wave, launches up in the air and completely jumps another boat. The sheer number of things that could have gone wrong in this clip boggles the mind.

60-Foot Rope Swing Triple Backflip
Rope swings are one of the cheapest ways to get big summer fun. All you have to do is find a deep body of water with a tree nearby, tie a rope to it and chips ahoy. This guy takes rope swinging to the next level with an insane leap from a jagged, rocky cliff sixty feet in the air. Instead of peeing his pants on release (which is what we would do), he keeps it together to pull a triple backflip and land safely in the water below. Some pretty ballsy stuff.

Boat Wheelie
We never really found powerboating all too interesting, but this video clip is enough to change our minds. Everything is better when you pop a wheelie, after all. This bold captain accelerates fast enough to lift the nose of his speedboat almost 90 degrees off the water. It takes a staggering amount of power in the engine for a boat to do this, and they can't do it for very long, but it sure is cool to watch. Less cool to experience, of course.

Jet Ski Human Cannonball
We touched upon some waterslide stuntery earlier on in this feature, but this clip takes things to a whole new level by adding a little propulsion to the mix. These enterprising maniacs headed out to Lake Shasta to construct what they call a "Slip & Bleed," an enormous watery ramp that sends people flying into the air at breakneck speeds. The air is big and the pain is all too real, but these guys (and girls) have balls to spare.

Flaming Cliff Dive
Summer stunts are all about water, but this one throws a little bit of fire into the mix as well. Brian Concannon, an Australian man who calls himself "Mr. Inferno," upped the ante on the game in 2006 by setting himself on fire and then bellyflopping off of a 20-foot cliff to douse the flames. This wasn't anything out of the ordinary for Concannon, who was previously arrested for riding a bicycle off of the roof of a Sydney public toilet while on fire.

Caterpillar Water Skiing
Want to waterski but don't have a boat? Don't despair - there's a solution, courtesy of these innovative rednecks. By hooking up a rope to a Caterpillar backhoe and having the entire thing spin around in the middle of a mud bog, you can simulate the waterski experience at a fraction of the cost. Assuming you have access to a backhoe, that is. Added insanity comes from the observation that that water doesn't look particularly clean or sanitary, but that's just part of the summer fun.

Jeep Destroys Pool
And, of course, all good things must come to an end. When the warm weather leaves us and the days get shorter, it's time to say goodbye to summer fun. And what better way to do so than with a little vehicular mayhem? These crazy Canadians decided to give their backyard pool a Viking funeral by driving a Jeep right into it and hoping for the best. The end results are probably not what they thought would happen, but it just proves how tough those pools really are.
