Recently, it seems people have been getting up in arms over an issue that seems downright hypocritical to us. While we here at Mandatory don't want to come off in any way misogynistic, nor condone overt sexuality or nudity for the sheer sake of it, where has all the outcry been up until this point? That's not to say we disagree that the excess skin shown by Alice Eve in "Star Trek: Into Darkness" and Famke Janssen in "The Wolverine" could have easily been sidestepped within the contents of the plot, or even that we don't find it pretty awesome most of the time, but we just wonder why the following list of other such instances in film never really raised the same eyebrows. And in case you were wondering, yes, we did think of all of these examples off the top of our heads in a matter of minutes, because the sheer amount is staggering. We'll leave it up to you to judge from there.

2009's "Star Trek"
We'll start with the most glaringly obvious example, as both Zoe Saldana and Rachel Nichols' characters show some major skin in the previous "Star Trek" installment. Also, just as "Into Darkness" used the controversial scene of Alice Eve in her skivvies in a large sum of their promotional material, the first one used the same method with Zoe Saldana's lingerie scenes. While they may have been a bit more pertinent to the plot (but were they really?), we don't recall hearing a lot of fuss over the matter the first time around.

Every "X-Men" film prior to "The Wolverine"
At least Famke Janssen's scenes in "The Wolverine" served more of a purpose than our previous entry. Sure, maybe she didn't have to be in a nightie every time she was on screen, but it was meant to represent Logan's lust for the woman he loved. Tell us again how Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence in skintight blue prosthetics was pertinent to the plot of any of the "X-Men" films, particularly since the character they played is clothed in a white dress in the comics they are based off of.

"Iron Man 3"
We suppose if you were to kidnap someone and perform medical experiments on them, you'd have to strip them down. After all, we all have to do the same thing when we go to the doctor's office. Of course, they at least give us a gown to cover our shame. Gwyneth Paltrow was given no such luxury in "Iron Man 3,' and it was more than evident in many of the promotional trailers, as shots of her in a black bra were randomly thrown into the action sequences. This was no doubt simply to grab the attention of the male audience.

"Swordfish"
This is one of the most blatant uses of sexuality to sell a film to have ever existed, and it still didn't draw as much flack as Alice Eve being shown in her bra and panties for ten seconds. Not only did Halle Berry bare her breasts in this film, she did it in such a way that would put Sharon Stone to shame in terms of nudity for the sheer sake of it. If any of you have ever seen "Swordfish," you'll recall just how pointless her nude scene was, as she was simply tanning topless. Seriously, that was about all the substance to it. Don't even get us started on "Catwoman," either.

Almost Every Comedy With Jennifer Aniston
"We're the Millers," "Just Go With It" and "The Break-Up" are just a few of many titles that come to mind when thinking of Jennifer Aniston films that use her sex appeal primarily to sell the movie. We're not saying that (some of) these films had no substance, but all of the trailers were her either stripping or walking around nude. Were all those scenes completely necessary to the plots they were telling? You know the answer.

"Just Go With It"
Speaking of "Just Go With It," we're almost positive that not a single trailer didn't contain the scene of Brooklyn Decker coming out of the water in a tiny yellow bikini. But hey, the purpose of that scene was to show that she is really hot, so we suppose that makes it substantial to the plot and totally necessary.

"The Three Stooges"
Along the same lines, Kate Upton appears briefly in the recent film adaptation of "The Three Stooges." She plays a nun named Sister Bernice. If you've never seen a nun before, this is apparently how they dress. And yes, we realize this was a comedy film and showing her as a hot nun in this get-up is meant to serve the purpose of getting laughs, but what does it really have to do with anything in the grand scheme of the movie?

"Your Highness"
We're starting to see a pattern here. The basic formula seems to be that if someone is hot and this point needs to be spelled out for the audience, the simplest way to do so is by simply showing them nude, or at least in the case of Natalie Portman in "Your Highness," in a thong (it was a butt double, but you get what we mean). Could they have just shown her from the shoulders up and implied she was nude? It doesn't matter, because no one seemed to think it was as big of a deal as Famke Janssen in a negligee anyways.

"Transformers"
These movies already have a bunch of meaningless explosions that more than make up for their terrible dialogue, but why not bend Megan Fox over a hot car engine or a motorcycle? That, at least, seems to be the reasoning behind most of her scenes of the like. Of course, no one probably made a big deal out of this shameless eye candy because the films would actually need a good plot in the first place for these scenes to not serve a purpose to.

"Shame"
In a film such as "Shame," which revolves around a man addicted to sex, you'd think most of the sexuality and nudity would be within context. For the most part, you'd be correct in that assumption. However, Carey Mulligan, who plays the sister of the main character, is shown full frontal naked taking a shower during one scene of the film, and we honestly don't see why such a gratuitous use of nudity in this instance makes any sense.

Every Single James Bond Film
Seriously, how much more sensitive do people have to get before they start tearing these films a new one? After all, it's not like there is generally much substance behind the lovely Bond Girls stripping down or getting it on with 007 for no other reason besides illustrating that the guy has sex with a ton of good looking women. With the way that folks find it so necessary to raise hell over virtually anything, it should only be a matter of time (pictured: Berenice Marlohe).
