Some people say that setting world records is an addiction in itself. Others turn their existing addictions into records of their own. In this feature, we'll spotlight ten people who have turned their obsessive habits into a way to be the best in the world at something. They may not be healthy, but they're still records. Here are 10 people with record-breaking addictions.
Okan Kaya - Video Gaming
Research into the addictive nature of video gaming is just beginning, but there's no arguing the effects that they have on the brain. Okan Kaya, an Australian video game addict, smashed the world record for continuous gameplay in 2012 when he sat down with just-released Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 and played it for a brain-melting 135 hours and 50 minutes. Amazingly, after he'd had some rest, he expressed a desire to play even more.

Kim Do-Yeon - Chocolate
The consumption of chocolate has interesting effects on the brain, triggering increased blood flow and a rush of endorphins. It's exactly the kind of thing that can create a record-breaking addiction. A Korean woman named Kim Do-Yeon claims to be the world record holder for chocolate consumption, having downed over 1.2 tons of it in the last six years. She drinks it from a glass and mixes it into every meal she eats. Amazingly, the 21-year-old fashion model doesn't seem to suffer any ill effects weight-wise from her absurdly sweet diet.

Andre Roussimoff - Beer
You might know Andre Roussimoff better by his stage name, Andre the Giant. The legendary professional wrestler stood a hulking seven foot four inches tall and weighed in at 475 pounds. A body that big needs a tremendous amount of alcohol to get it tipsy, which is why Andre lays claim to one of the most amazing beer-related world records of all time. One evening, the Giant really wanted to get a buzz on, so he sat down in a bar and drank 119 bottles of beer in a six hour period. He passed out in a hotel lobby and his fellow wrestlers kept him warm with a piano cover. It's estimated that Andre consumed 7,000 calories in alcohol every day. For reference, that's almost three times the total calories that an average man needs total.

Julia Gnuse - Tattoos
Tattoos can turn from simple adornment to serious obsessions overnight, but for some people getting new body art can be described as an addiction. Californian Julia Gnuse got her first tattoo in the mid-1990s when she developed porphyria, a rare condition that causes the skin to blister when it's exposed to sunlight. She started with tattoos on her legs, but soon admitted that she was addicted to the tattooing process and went on to cover 95% of her skin with body art. Every single one of her tattoos was designed and executed by just one artist. Gnuse now holds the Guinness record for the most tattooed woman in the world, and it's going to be tough to beat her.

Darlene Flynn - Shoes
We don't want to gender stereotype here, but the world record shoe addict probably wasn't ever going to be a man. Darlene Flynn was a Southern California woman who was obsessed with footwear, amassing a collection of over 15,000 pairs of shoes and other shoe-related items. She was so crazy about shoes that she made her live-in boyfriend serve her scrambled eggs and toast cut into the shape of a pair of high heels. Unfortunately, all was not well in shoe paradise and in July 2013 Flynn's boyfriend bludgeoned her to death and threw her body into the pool.

Irvin Rosenfeld - Marijuana
Doctors will tell you that smoking marijuana isn't physically addictive. Psychologically, though, it's another story. Amazingly enough, there is an actual world record for the most marijuana legally smoked in a lifetime, and it belongs to Florida stockbroker Irvin Rosenfeld. In 1982, Rosenfeld was selected as part of a federal program to test the efficacy of cannabis in managing the pain caused by his bone cancer, and since then the government has provided him with free weed. In 2009, he smoked his 115,000th government joint, landing him a spot in the record books.

Cindy Jackson - Plastic Surgery
Yes, it is ironic that the person who holds the world record for most plastic surgeries has the last name "Jackson." Cindy Jackson (no relation) was born in Hazard, Kentucky and grew up in Ohio, where teasing boys planted a seed in her brain that would flower into an obsession. When her father died, she used her inheritance for the first of a world record 52 cosmetic surgeries, including jaw surgery, facelifts, liposuction, lip implants and many more. She intends to keep getting surgeries as long as she lives to hold on to her perfect appearance.

Christopher Schewe - Vodka
Christopher Schewe is a lunatic with a mission. Under the moniker of "Shoenice," he's made it his life goal to end world hunger by taking part in daredevil drinking and eating stunts. He's such a heavy drinker that he can down just about any alcoholic beverage in no time with no ill effects. The man has a constitution of iron, as evidenced by his casual crushing of the world record for drinking 750 milliliters of vodka in just 9.6 seconds. He actually has an official Guinness record under his belt as well - for eating lit candles. This is a man with dedication to his craft.

Bola Adebisi - Swallowed Heroin
Here's a record we don't think anybody is looking to break: the most illegal drugs ever recovered from a human stomach. Bola Adebisi was a Nigerian woman working as a heroin mule for an African cartel, delivering 180 thumb-sized pellets full of the drug in her stomach on a flight from Addis Ababa to Washington, D.C. When security pat-downs found her belly was unusually hard, she was taken to the hospital where she expelled almost five pounds of heroin with a street value of nearly $300,000. That would have fed a lot of addictions.

Sonny Nash - Masturbation
Let's close this list with an addiction that pretty much every one of us has struggled with privately. Masturbation is perfectly harmless once in a while, but it can turn into an obsession. For adult film actor Sonny Nash, setting the world record for male masturbation in front of a crowd of onlookers was a victory for America - the previous holder was a Japanese man named Masanobu Sato, who played with himself for nine hours and 33 minutes in 2009. In 2012, Nash smashed his record by jerking it for ten hours and 50 minutes. This all took place at the annual "Masturbate-A-Thon," a charity event for San Francisco's Center for Sex and Culture. What a world we live in.
