Editors note: These are all very difficult to watch, so do so at your own risk.
One of the worst parts of sports is seeing a player with his entire career in front of him go down with a horrible injury. I'm not talking a sprain or a cramp. I mean a truly terrible injury. Here are the most gruesome sports injuries that were captured on film. Obviously the videos are graphic, so click play with caution.
Anderson Silva
Not only was watching Silva break his leg against Chris Weidman horrific to watch, it even worse knowing that there's a very good chance we will never see Anderson Silva in the octagon again.

Kevin Ware
When Kevin Ware broke his leg against Duke in the 2013 Elite Eight, you instantly knew it was a horrible injury, as players had no idea how to react and were in complete disarray. Hopefully this won't be the end of his promising career.

Clint Malarchuk
As gross as it is seeing a broken bone, Clint Malarchuk nearly died after a skate slash his jugular vein. Somehow he only missed five games after looking like the ending of a Saw movie.

Matt Nichols
During the 2012 CFL Playoffs, Edmonton Eskimos quarterback Matt Nichols was sacked, which isn't that dramatic, but what was truly awful was seeing his foot in the wrong direction. Somehow his career wasn't instantly ended, as it turned out no bones were broken. This is the most horrific injury you'll ever see that didn't result in a broken bone.

Brandon McCarthy
McCarthy, who was a pitcher for the Oakland A's at the time, caught a line drive hit by Erick Aybar in the right side of his head. He suffered a skull fracture and brain contusion, which required a two-hour surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. Thankfully he recovered in full and is currently pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks

Richard Zednik
If there's any doubt how dangerous how is, look no further than Richard Zednik, who had an artery cut open in a slashing incident back in 2008. He missed the full season but luckily he did not bleed to death. Be careful out there, hockey players.

Patrick Edwards
In one of the most bizarre injuries, Houston wide receiver Patrick Edwards broke his leg after running into a motorized cart that was, for some reason, parked just past the endzone in a 2008 game against Marshall. He ended up suing Marshall for their negligence. Luckily he recovered fully and is now on the Detroit Lions practice squad.

Derrick Roland
In 2009 the senior at Texas A&M came down in the worst way possible and broke both the tibia and fibula in his leg, which caused it to turn at a 90-degree angle.

Bruno Torres
I'm not very familiar with the rules of Portuguese beach soccer, but I would think after witnessing a knee injury like Bruno Torres suffered in 2012, you should probably just call it a day.

Allen Ray
It's not uncommon for a basketball player to get poked in the eye, but in the 2006 Big East tournament, Villanova's guard Allen Ray had his eye popped out of the socket. And you thought basketball was the safest sport.

Marc Mariani
If anyone thinks preseason is too long, it's Marc Mariani. In 2012 the Tennessee Titans' return man suffered a gruesome broken leg that caused him to miss at least the next two NFL seasons.

Paulo Diogo
This one is just absurd. Diogo had just gotten an assist on a goal and jumped up onto a fence to celebrate with fans. Unfortunately his wedding ring got caught in the wire fence and ended up tearing off his finger. Just to add insult to injury, the refs gave him a penalty for excessive celebration.

Thomas Morgenstern
This injury happened just a couple of weeks ago and, honestly, he's lucky to be alive. The good news is that at the end of last week, Morgenstern left has left the hospital and will continue his rehab at a clinic. His prognosis was that he is "doing surprisingly well. ... He still has a memory gap but that's nothing unusual."
