Video of 'Real' Hoverboards Actually a Funny or Die Hoax

A video featuring Tony Hawk, Moby, Terrell Owens and others taking turns on what appeared to be real hoverboards is apparently too good to be true.

According to Mashable, the video is actually a hoax created by the geniuses at Funny or Die, and that's really a damn shame.

The roughly four-and-a-half minute video features testimonials and footage of celebrities like Hawk and Owens taking their turns on the anti-gravity boards created by a fictional company named HUVr Tech. Even a super old and beer-bellied Christopher Lloyd, who played Doc Brown in the "Back to the Future" trilogy, makes an appearance in the video when he delivers the hoverboards in a DeLorean.

In a matter of hours, the video was viewed millions of times and legitimately covered by numerous press outlets including FOX Sports and the Washington Post. According to the Post, HUVr Tech had even announced the boards would be available to the public in December.

The hoax was revealed when a costume designer posted the gig on her online resume.

Damn.

This means the closest you'll get to a hoverboard is still by watching "Back to the Future II." It also means my 2014 Christmas list is already in rewrite mode.

Damn you, Tony Hawk. You're now part of this list: 10 Notorious Internet Hoaxes
