Comics aren't just for kids anymore, obviously. But as the adult themes have ramped up when it comes to violence, they've also ramped up in terms of sex. It's not surprising that superheroes feel the need to get it on - if you were surrounded by absurdly sculpted bodies in skin-tight spandex, you'd probably pack a chubby once in a while. In this feature, we'll spotlight ten scenes from all kinds of comics that pushed the envelope when it came to sexuality.
Luke Cage & Jessica Jones, Alias #1
Brian Michael Bendis has become one of the prime architects of the Marvel Universe over the last decade, but it shouldn't be forgotten that he got his feet wet in a much different part of the company. His groundbreaking series Alias introduced Jessica Jones, a forgotten superhero retired from the business to work as a private investigator.
But the cape world has a lot of baggage, and Jessica is no exception. The most talked-about scene in the first issue involves Jones calling Luke Cage - a.k.a. Power Man - over for a late-night booty call. And we do mean booty - even though it's not directly confirmed, there's a strong implication that Power Man is driving up the wrong-way road.

Buffy & Angel, Buffy The Vampire Slayer #34
The TV version of Buffy certainly didn't shy away from sex and its consequences - who can forget how Buffy giving up the good turned Angel into a soulless sociopath? - but the comic book sequel to the cult classic series truly amped things up a notch. During the "Twilight" storyline - no relation to the other popular vampire series - Buffy and Spike get it on again, but this time with the cosmic force of a newborn universe behind them. It opens up a whole new bag of worms, including rampaging demons and the end of everything we know, but at least it was some good nookie.

Batman & Catwoman, Catwoman #1
DC's New 52 relaunch in 2011 started all of their iconic characters over from scratch, but some things never really change. Take the first issue of foxy burglar Catwoman's solo title, which climaxed with her and Batman getting down to business on a Gotham City rooftop. Some people were outraged that Selina Kyle would give it up so easily, but their relationship is apparently a serious deal in this rebooted universe. The curvaceous art by Guillem March didn't hurt matters any either.

Dr. Manhattan & Silk Spectre, Watchmen #3
As bizarre and post-human as Dr. Manhattan is in Alan Moore's classic Watchmen, he still likes to get his swerve on. The event that helps tip the world towards disaster in the book is Manhattan's vanishing from the Earth, which is partially inspired by a lover's quarrel he had with his very human girlfriend Laurie Juspeczyk, who once fought crime as the Silk Spectre. The pair are seemingly getting it on like normal until Laurie opens her eyes and discovers her boyfriend has duplicated himself multiple times for a little gang bang action - and another clone of himself is doing a science experiment in another room.

Wolverine & Domino, X-Force: Sex And Violence #2
When you've been alive for as long as Wolverine has, you probably pick up some boudoir tricks that ladies go wild for. At least that's what we're assuming from 2010 miniseries X-Force: Sex And Violence, which paired the pint-size Canadian killing machine with Domino, a luck-manipulating assassin, for a blood-soaked and sweaty battle against the ninja clan called the Hand. In the second issue, the duo work out their professional differences like adults should: by renting a hotel room and getting their hump on.

Marv & Goldie, Sin City
Sometimes a sex scene is about what you don't see as much as what you do, and no cartoonist illustrates that fact quite like Frank Miller. The legendary illustrator's deep, inky blacks turn the scene between battle-scarred antihero Marv and his paramour Goldie that starts off the first Sin City story into a ballet of form and contour, where two people come together only to have a shocking blast of violence drive them apart forever. The movie version doesn't do it justice.

Kitty Pryde & Colossus, Astonishing X-Men #14
The long-simmering romance between X-Men Kitty Pryde and Piotr Rasputin, a.k.a. Colossus, took forever to be consummated. Maybe that's because Kitty was 15 when they met and they both died for a little bit in the middle of it. But finally, in the pages of blockbuster hit Astonishing X-Men, they were both ready to do the do, and it was a landmark moment. The scene also had a little bit of comedic relief, as Kitty's phasing power - which lets her pass through solid matter unimpeded - kicked in by accident at a tender moment, sending her through the bed and the floor to the room below.

Swamp Thing & Abigail Holland, Swamp Thing #34
DC's shambling muck monster Swamp Thing has been through a lot of changes in his time in the funny papers, but everybody agrees that his best days were when Alan Moore was writing him, exploring in amazing detail the curious life of a plant that thought he was a man. One of Moore's best issues was "The Rites Of Spring," which let Swampy and lady-love Abby Holland get physical in a unique way. Swamp Thing grows psychoactive tubers from his body, and when Abby eats one she goes on a full-body trip that lets the two of them get very, very close.

Ant-Man & The Wasp, Avengers #71
Superpowers seem like they'd be both good and bad when you were having sex. Can you imagine how disturbing it would be for your X-ray vision to accidentally go on during a makeout? No thanks. But for Marvel's original size-changing power couple, it's all in a day's work. In the pages of Avengers issue 71, Hank Pym - the hero known at varying times as Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Goliath, Yellowjacket and a few more I can't remember - is getting back together with his wife, the winsome Wasp. And the scene depicts a miniaturized Pym clambering out of his wife's private parts, mission accomplished. Yikes!

Batman & Talia Al Ghul, Son Of The Demon
The caped crusader lands on this list for the second time, as he's the superhero who gets laid the most as far as we can tell. It's not terribly surprising - he's a millionaire playboy who also works out like a million hours a day and has dark secrets. But this particular booty call didn't work out so well for Bats at first - in the Son Of The Demon graphic novel, he was drugged and seduced by Talia Al Ghul, daughter of one of his oldest enemies. She got pregnant with a child, who was then given to the League of Assassins and raised in a laboratory to be a weapon against his father. Isn't that always how these things work out?
