Oona Chaplin was born in Madrid, Spain, but spent half of every year of her childhood in Switzerland.

She is a mix of Chilean and European ancestry.

Oona is the great-granddaughter of Nobel-prize winning writer Eugene O'Neil.

If that wasn't interesting enough, she is also the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin. Yeah, that Charlie Chaplin.

English is her third language, after Spanish and French.

She said, "I don't buy things, I buy plane tickets."

Carice is fluent in Dutch, English, French and German.

When she auditioned for the role of Melisandre, she wasn't familiar with the show or the novels, and it was her friend Seth Meyers from "SNL" who convinced her to take the part.

Carice said, "I never really saw myself as a sexy person. I consider myself a nerd, basically. It's funny to see people's reactions...they project all their fantasies on me."

Regarding her acting style, Carice said, "I don't do method acting. If I play a farmer, I'm not gonna spend 3 weeks on a chicken farm."

About acting, Carice said, "I do this acting thing mostly for myself. I like to make a connection and communicate with the audience to make myself feel less lonely."

Carice van Houten is a huge Laurel and Hardy fan.

Fake Grand Slam, 2012

With the profusion of advertising banners and other distractions present in a modern stadium, knocking a dinger over the wall isn't as easy as it used to be. When the Nationals played the Cardinals in September of 2012, Nats outfielder Michael Morse hit a long ball with the bases loaded in the first inning. Unfortunately, the homer bounced off of an ad at the top of the fence and back into play, catching him out at second. When the umps examined the tape, though, they decided that it was actually a grand slam. The Nats had to return to their bases backwards, then Morse took a fake swing with no bat in his hands, and all of the players rounded the bases to home like normal. It was like watching little kids pretending to play in the World Series.

Buck Martinez Tags Two Men Out With A Broken Leg, 1985

You don't typically expect a bizarre play to come from a team's catcher, but anything can happen in this article. In 1985 the Toronto Blue Jays were facing the Seattle Mariners at the Kingdome, and behind the batter was Jays catcher Buck Martinez. Gorman Thomas was at the plate for the Mariners and Phil Bradley at second. Thomas wanged a solid base hit and the infield whipped it to Martinez to stop Bradley from scoring. Bradley slid into home so hard that it broke Martinez's leg and sent him helpless to the dirt. Amazingly, the catcher still had the cojones to try and get the ball to third to stop the advancing Thomas. The throw went wide, but left fielder George Bell got under it and threw it back to Martinez, lying prone on the ground, and he nailed Thomas as he came into home to put him out as well.  It's the only 9-2-7-2 double play in Major League Baseball history.

Eddie Gaedel Walks, 1951

Sure, today's athletes are larger than life, but this is ridiculous. Cleveland Browns owner Bill Veeck was known as a real publicity hound who would do anything to put butts in seats, but a stunt he pulled in 1951 stands as one of the craziest substitutions the sport of baseball has ever seen. The Browns were facing the Detroit Tigers and in the second game, manager Zack Taylor pulled Frank Saucier from the plate, replacing him with a pinch-hitter - and what a pinch. Eddie Gaedel was a dwarf, standing just three feet seven inches tall and wearing a jersey with the number "1/8." But this was no joke - Veeck had signed Gaedel to an official contract, so he was a legal player. Tigers pitcher Bob Cain tried to hit Gaedel's tiny strike zone, but threw four balls in a row and the little Brown walked to first base, was replaced by a pinch runner, and never played for the team again.

Paul O'Neill Plays Soccer, 1989

Baseball has relatively few rules telling you what to do with the ball once you have it, but Cincinnati Reds outfielder Paul O'Neill must have skipped the rulebook. In a 1989 game against the Phillies at Veterans Stadium, a lobbing hit to right field looked like an easy out. Unfortunately, O'Neill couldn't hold on to the ball and it fell out of his hands. What happened next was one of the nuttiest plays in baseball history - O'Neill kicked the ball with his left foot back to the infield, where it was picked up at third base to stop Steve Jeltz from scoring on the hit. The speed and accuracy of his spur of the moment kick were worthy of Pele. It's never happened before and it most likely will never happen again.

Seagulls Win The Game, 2009

Baseball is best played under the open sky, but that can lead to some interference from Mother Nature. In a 2009 game between the Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals, the game had gone into extra innings with Cleveland's Shin-Soo Choo up to bat and two men on base. However, there was a third group of players on the field: a flock of pesky seagulls who had been digging in the turf of Progressive Field for bugs all game. Choo smacked a tight line drive to centerfield as the Royals' hilariously-named outfielder Coco Crisp rushed into position to catch it, only to be flummoxed when the ball bounced off a seagull and rolled to the wall, letting all three men score. The bird survived, but was pretty dazed.

Jose Canseco Beanball Home Run, 1993

If you've ever wondered how Jose Canseco went from one of the most dominant men in baseball to the bizarre Twitter joke he is today, look back to a 1993 game between the Texas Rangers and the Cleveland Indians. At the start of the fourth inning, Cleveland's Carlos Martinez nailed a huge smack to the right wall, but Canseco was there, chasing down the ball and leaping to catch it. The ball, however, bounced right off of Jose's head and out of the park, putting the Indians on the path to victory. The rule is that any ball that is touched by a fielder and then leaves the park counts as a home run - even the head.

Bob Feller Fouls Off His Mom, 1939

Here's a pretty funny tale from baseball antiquity. Cleveland Indians pitcher Bob Feller claimed that growing up on a farm gave him the strength to deliver his blistering fastball. Amazingly enough, it took his mother three years to come see him in a major league game, but it was an experience she wouldn't soon forget. On Mother's Day in 1939, Feller sent his mom a train ticket to Chicago and gave her front-row seats to the Indians' bout with the White Sox. Late in the game, Marv Owen stepped to the plate and swung on a Feller pitch, knocking it foul into the stands - and right in the face of the elder Ms. Feller, breaking her glasses and sending her to the hospital. Ever the devoted son, Bob finished out the game and the Indians won 9-4.

Brooks Conrad's Shirt Catch, 2010

It seems so simple to catch a baseball, right? Kids do it all the time. But things can get tricky out there on the diamond, as the Atlanta Braves learned in a loss to the White Sox in 2010. Chicago was up with two outs in the bottom of the fourth when Alex Rios knocked a low grounder to third base. It hopped once and was caught by Atlanta's Brooks Conrad - or was it? When he stood up, the ball was completely missing, and neither Conrad or shortstop Yuniel Escobar could find it for several seconds. It turns out that the baseball had actually rolled up inside Conrad's jersey in a once in a lifetime occurrence, getting caught between two buttons. The rest of the inning would turn out no better for the Braves, who eventually lost the game 9-6.

President Nixon

Who knew NPR had a sense of humor? In 1992, its "Talk of the Nation" program announced that President Richard Nixon, he of Watergate and resignation infamy, was going to run for president again. His slogan? "I didn't do anything wrong, and I won't do it again." NPR revealed the prank after only a few minutes.

Manhattan, Kansas

Talk about small-town pride. In 2012, the residents in this town built the first "crop square humanity has ever seen" which resembled a Quick Response code. But instead of a coupon for a giant iPhone, the likes of which we've never seen, this was really just a PR stunt for Butterfinger. Once the giant crop square appeared, the Nestle candy bar released a statement linking the crop squares, missing Butterfingers and the Mayan prophecy about the end of the world that was so popular back then. The real mystery at the end of all this is how a crop square stunt helps to sell candy bars.

Alabama and Science

In 1998, physicist Mark Boslough (writing under the pseudonym April Holiday) - hint, hint - in the issue of "New Mexicans for Science and Reason" said that Alabama was redefining pi as 3.0 instead of 3.14 in order to keep it closer to "biblical value." It was intended as a parody of attempts by the state to ban the teaching of evolution.

Google

This tech giant is notorious for its April Fools' hoaxes. Some of their hoaxes include "Google Romance" (2006), in which it offered a "Soulmate Search." In 2007, it announced TiSP, the Toilet Internet Service Provider, a self-installed, ad-supported online service ... connected to a local municipal service system." In 2011, it released "Gmail Motion" that let users type emails by using gestures. (Interestingly, what began as a joke later became reality from the Institute of Creative Technologies.)

In 2012, Google came up with "Google Racing," in which it teamed with NASCAR to create a self-driving vehicle to compete in the world of stock car racing. The same year, Google released an 8-bit version of Google Maps, temporarily replacing its standard version. We happily anticipate what Google has in store for its billions of users this year.

Burger King

In 1998, Burger King announced in a full-page ad in "USA Today" that it had created a Whopper for nearly 32 million left-handed Americans. The new Whopper had all the same ingredients, but condiments were "rotated 180 degrees for the benefit of their left-handed customers." According to the company, people requested the old "right-handed" version (abcnews.go.com). Maybe some pranks reveal how gullible humanity is; either that, or how stupid.

Wisconsin State Capital Collapses

In 1933, the Madison "Capital Times" ran a picture of the collapsed State Capitol dome under the headline, "Dome Topples Off Statehouse: Officials Say Legislature Generated Too Much Hot Air." Not a bad photo, considering this was before the days of Photoshop. Even though the article ended with "April Fool," a lot of readers were still upset.

The Republic of San Seriffe

In 1977, the British newspaper "The Guardian" published a seven-page supplement dedicated to the heretofore-unknown (and made-up) islands of San Serriffe. Apparently meant to appeal to the grammatically inclined, the islands were in the shape of a semicolon and details about the island alluded to printer's terminology. The newspaper was flooded with calls from readers who wanted more information about this unique vacation spot.

Virgin Volcanic

Richard Branson, the charming Brit billionaire, announced in 2012 that he was launching a journey to the center of the Earth through Virgin Volcanic, and that Tom Hanks would join the first expedition. Its press release read: "Only 500 people have been to space, only three people have been to the bottom of the ocean, but no one has ever attempted to journey to the core of an active volcano. Until now." While still an April Fool's prank, it sounds cool to consider.

Taco Liberty Bell

In 1996, "The New York Times" ran an ad from Taco Bell. It read: "In an effort to help the national debt, Taco Bell is pleased to announce that we have agreed to purchase the Liberty Bell ... it will now be called the 'Taco Liberty Bell.'" With our national debt still in crisis, this same prank could be pulled today.

Skydiving Scare

Two friends have been engaged in a prank war for years. In an effort to up the ante, Amir Blumenfeld took his friend Streeter Seidell skydiving, only to have the skydiving instructor tell Streeter that his cord was broken while mid-air and that he was plummeting to his death. This breaks a central tenet of the Man Code: Don't make him think he's dying.

Mitt Romney

Maybe not the most epic, but it shows that no one is immune from pranksters. In 2012, while running for president, Romney's campaign staffers set up an event room where Mitt was going to meet with voters. His staff warned him that turnout at the event was lighter than expected. Said Romney, "I go in there and it's completely empty. There's nobody there! I thought, Oh boy, this is going to look really bad on the evening news, let me tell ya."

Sitka, Alaska

In 1974, residents of Sitka, Alaska, got panicked when they saw their neighboring and long-dormant volcano, Mount Edgecumbe, throwing up clouds of black smoke. People ran from their homes, worried that the volcano was gonna blow. The Coast Guard sent out a chopper to investigate, only to see spray-painted in the snow in 50-foot-high black letters "APRIL FOOL."

Turns out it was a prank by Porky Bickar, who had flown hundreds of old tires into the volcano's crater and then lit them on fire. Amazingly, Porky was never charged. Alaska Airlines liked the prank so much, it included it in an ad campaign the following year. When Mt. St. Helens erupted six years later, Porky received a note that read, "This time, you little bastard, you've gone too far."

Sidd Finch

As reported in the April 1985 edition of "Sports Illustrated," Sidd Finch was a rookie pitcher who could throw a baseball at 168 mph, and he planned to play for the Mets. Supposedly, he'd mastered his skills in a Tibetan monastery under a great Lama. Mets fans went nuts with excitement, only to find it was a hoax.

The article read: "He's a pitcher: part yogi and part recluse. Impressibly liberated from our opulent lifestyle, Sidd's deciding about yoga - and his future in baseball." The first letter of each of the words, when taken together, spelled "Happy April Fools Day - AhFib." (musuemofhoaxes.com).

No. 9 - Earth Day (April 22)

Ah, the wonders of nature. If everyday were Earth Day, well it probably wouldn't seem as important, but maybe we'd live in a cleaner world. Earth Day is meant as an honest reminder to be appreciative and respectful of the ground we walk on, the trees we sleep under and the beaches we prefer to walk on without getting syringed. Much like any good holiday, we wonder why things can't always be this way, but the truth is some people are just irresponsible a-holes.

So this Earth Day, clean up the litter in your neighborhood, plant a tree and rescue a kitten from another tree. At the end of the day, you should feel good about yourself, and if you don't, then there are much bigger problems with you. It's also National Week of the Ocean the first week of April and Environmental Awareness Week the third week. Big month for nature, so be good to it!

No. 8 - Record Store Day (April 20)

Even if you're agoraphobic and resent natural light touching your skin, here's one day it's imperative to get out of the house. Record Store Day is a tradition, not long held but a tradition nonetheless, of supporting your local music provider.

If it weren't for music, we'd all be beating each other senseless from lack of sleep due to scarce sounds of the ocean and whales mating in the moonlight. So be kind to the people who provide nice things. Get up early and grab yourself some record deals, maybe a record player if you haven't already. CDs and DVDs were a temporary replacement for the good stuff; now get back to where smart people left off before you find yourself at another Bon Jovi concert with your mother-in-law straddling your shoulders flashing her knockers yet again.

And don't tell us 4/20 is also a marijuana-smoking holiday. We know all about it, and for many of you the celebration has already begun (or never stopped).

No. 7 - International Pillow Fight Day (April 6)

The chief objective of a man's day is to somehow get the topless pillow fights of lady slumber parties out of the house and into the workplace. Thankfully, International Pillow Fight Day is that day, and with enough corralling, awareness and preemptive planning, you could achieve your dream, gentlemen, one sexy pillowcase at a time.

As an added bonus, you also have a reason to more or less knock someone's lights out in the office with a pillow, preferably Connie, the narc who always talks badly about you when you leave the break room, or Dale, the guy who always eats your hummus and thinks no one is onto his tricks.

No. 6 - National Wear Pajamas to Work Day (April 18)

It's too bad that this day doesn't fall on Pillow Fight Day, since that would make the pillow fight a shoe-in for every office space. But seriously, it's time you got to show off your SpongeBob onesie with the butt flap, even if you have to steal it back from your son. So take advantage of it (if your boss allows it, of course).

Side note: Take Sons and Daughters to Work Day is also in April on the 25th. So if you're not fired after hitting a co-worker with a pillow and then wearing your jammies to work, you can enjoy that day, as well.

No. 5 - World Autism Awareness Day (April 2)

It would be remiss of us to not include a good cause in this list, as there is an awareness day we should all consider as we go about our belligerent lives. World Autism Awareness Day is a time for not only bringing awareness but also doing unique fundraising in order to help people with autism. On this day, we can take some time to help out locally or donate to a good cause in order to do as much as possible, especially for children with autism who struggle with it.

Not-for-profits like Surfers Healing, with Scott Caan as their celebrity spokesman, provide surf trips to autistic children as a sort of therapeutic reward for their efforts and bring light into those lives. There are many more organizations out there like this, so check them out on this day.

No. 4 - Arbor Day (April 27)

April Fools! Nobody gives a hoot about Arbor Day, nor does anyone really know what the hell it is (jk, we know it is a good tree-planting day for Mother Earth).

Just remember that April 1 is April Fools' Day, not so much because it's important to play a prank on somebody, but it's important not to look like a complete idiot immediately when someone pranks you. You must be prepared.

And hey, if you get a hankering yourself to shake things up and get the office talking, go for it. Maybe bring in a medicinal marijuana cake from the pot shop for dessert and tell your co-workers it's just a regular cake. That should whip them into a frenzy. When your boss fires you, though, don't laugh, because that's probably for real.

No. 3 - Husband Appreciation Day (April 20)

It's the Valentine's Day for men: Husband Appreciation Day. If you're a married man, this is sort of like the reception after your funeral, except you get to come. Don't expect much from your lady since it's not a commercially successful holiday, but if you give her enough notice as to the date, you could finally have your day.

You'll most likely want to go to the restaurant of your choice, go to the game with the boys and later have a wild time and stay out real late without calling her to tell her about the college girls you're hitting on. But odds are you'll just end up on the couch all day wasting away until she calls your name in the most annoying way possible, asking you to kill a spider or unclog the toilet. Ah, marriage.

Of course, any guy not willing to commit to marriage loses out and is stuck with yet another day of doing anything he wants to do. Better buckle down, boys. You don't want to miss out on this day.

No. 2 - Coachella (April 12-14, April 19-21)

What makes warmer months most recognizable is when we're eager to pay hundreds of dollars to pack up the car, sit in standstill traffic, camp near a bunch of tweekers and ignore bathing all in the name of music. That's right; it's festival season.

Now that Austin's SXSW is over, we can get down to the dirty festivals, starting with California's Coachella this April and moving into Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and many more in the coming months. Expect a lot of the same bands from last year, some new hipster doofuses and some band that is way too old to be playing in this heat without some oxygen nearby. Rock on.
